Night Shift

Radialsystem V

Berlin (DE) – 2012

The conference “The Art of Listening – Trends and Perspectives of a History of Music Listening” took place together with the “Radial Night – Experiments in Music Listening” at RADIALSYSTEM V. The audience was invited to wander through the rooms of the building, listen to music in different environments and creatively explore their own perception. How do lighting, scenography and individual perspective influence the listening experience? In our piece ‘Night Shift’, visitors found themselves in a nocturnal factory hall whose mysterious processes gradually manifested themselves throughout the performance space. Our thoughts on that night: Much more than a mere sound reproduction in space, sound scenography provokes a performative act that transforms the space. Through the sound, the people in the space experience it differently and construct their own reality.
