Berlin (DE) – 2016
PARAESTHESIA is a sensory hallucination that ignites nerve endings and penetrates deep into the skin. Imagine a vivid, immersive audiovisual space woven from fragments of nightmares, acid flashbacks, and visions. This live act combines experimental spoken word, electronic music, and analog instrumental performance. Created in collaboration with the experimental spoken-word group IZZJAZZ (Leonard De Leonard and Łukasz Polowczyk aka aint about me), sound scenographer Johannes Scherzer (TAUCHER), cellist Simon Houghton, drummer Gianpaolo Camplese, vocal sculpture experimentalist DE KJ, and visual artist Grace Nicholas, the show exploded at the charming Panke Culture as part of the 2016 CTM Vorspiel and the Transmediale Berlin – festival for art and digital culture. During this impromptu performance, we used our new software instrument for the first time in a live situation. It’s a lightweight spatial audio technology that allows us to move the sounds of different instruments across the space and gives us spatial control at our fingertips like in instrument in itself. We named it MNTN The Sound of the Mountain. It’s been intuitive and reliable for many years and remains our primary tool for sound spatialization in most of our projects.
