The Doors of Perception
Fulldome Festival Jena, SAT (Société des arts technologieques) Montréal
Jena (DE), Montréal (CA) – 2012 / 2013
TAUCHER created the fulldome film “The Doors of Perception” in collaboration with filmmaker Ralph Heinsohn. The short film is inspired by Aldous Huxley’s exploration of altered states of consciousness, and we creatively engaged with two technological innovations of the time: achieving a completely dark black in the imagery and utilizing an immersive 3D sound system, a pioneering feature in planetarium settings in 2012. We crafted a soundscape that formed a site-specific spatial experience with Heinsohn’s visual design, including segments presented against a completely black screen, experimenting with abstract auditory elements that were not merely supportive but integral to forming an immersive experience. Utilizing the spatial sound system within this unique architectural space, we invited the audience to engage deeply in a moment of dissolving space, transforming the fulldome cinema into a living, dreamlike architecture. The film premiered at the Fulldome Festival in Jena in 2012, receiving an honorable mention for its innovative fusion of visual and auditory elements. It was also showcased at festivals like the SAT Fest in the Satospère de Montréal, Canada.
